摩洛哥 Riad 庭院黄昏

A richly atmospheric architectural photograph of a traditional Moroccan riad courtyard at the moment dusk turns to night. The square courtyard is two storeys tall, surrounded by horseshoe arches on slender columns of veined alabaster. The lower walls are tiled to a height of 1.6 metres in handmade zellige in deep cobalt, saffron, and ivory, the geometric pattern an eight-point star surrounded by interlaced ribbons. Above the tile the walls are smooth tadelakt plaster in a warm rose-clay tone. At the courtyard centre sits a square fountain of carved marble, water rising six centimetres before falling back in four directions. Rose petals float on the surface. Four small orange trees in pierced copper planters mark the corners, two of them in fruit. Above, the sky through the open roof is a deep ink-blue, the first star just visible. Lanterns of perforated brass hang from the arches and from a long brass chain in the centre, each casting filigree patterns of light onto the tile floor. A low banquette of long red and ochre cushions runs along one side, with a brass tray holding a tea glass and a sprig of mint. Camera: 20mm at f/4, shot from a low corner.
